Johnston served in the California Legislatured for20 years, with the Assembly from 1981 to 1990 and in the Senate from 1991 to 2000. Johnston, a represented San Joaquin County in the Assembly and serves in the 5th State Senate which encompasses Yolo County along with portiondsof Sacramento, Solano and San Joaquin counties.
